Surface Pro Fresh Windows 10 Install

We just used the Windows 10 ISO to fresh install 10 Pro ver 1709 on a Surface Pro 2017. Everything completed correctly; but there were a few errors.

Our first tip off was that the camera gave an error message “Can’t find your camera” Error Code 0xA00F4244 or 0x200F4244

The Surface Diagnostic Toolkit showed that the display driver was also not completely installed, despite there being no warning in Device Manager. Sure enough, we could not adjust screen brightness. Multi touch detection was also broken.

The fix was a simple one. Surface Pro drivers do not download via Windows Update!?

We manually installed the Surface Pro Drivers and Firmware from the Microsoft Download Center here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55484

After the installation and couple of reboots, everything was running as expected on our Surface Pro i5 model 1796.

I'm having issues with Adobe corruption.

PDF corruption from client using Mac Preview to edit the file instead of Adobe.

Here is the workaround.  Preview the PDF in Google Chrome and hit Print, then choose “Save as PDF” as the printer.
That is how to get a clean copy.

“[SOLVED] Text hidden on PDF form fields until clicked on
8 July 2013 by Adrian Gordon
Problem
You’ve got a PDF with form fields enabled. People are completing the form, saving the information and sending it back – however when you open the document the form fields appear empty.
When you click on the form fields the text appears, when you click away the text is hidden again.
Solution
This mysterious issue has been reported for several years without a fix from Adobe, however there does appear to be a workaround if you have the Adobe Acrobat software.
The issue appears to stem from Apple Mac users completing the form using the ‘preview’ software – which allows Mac computers to open PDF documents without AdobeReader being installed. The preview software appears to be corrupting the PDF, saving the form information but not displaying it correctly.”

How To Move a Time Matters and PCLaw Database to a New Server

sqlThis is an updated post to my previous entry regarding moving LNTPA Practice Advantage 9 to a new server.  This time I had to move Time Matters 11 from SBS 2003 server running SQL 2005 SP2 (Server A) to Server 2012 R2 running SQL 2008 R2 Express (Server B).  Time Matters specifically has to be installed as a blank database first to let the built in SQL security accounts be created, then you run a SQL query to reset the permissions after attaching the copied MDF / LDF files.  Here is how to do it.
