I stumbled across this picture today. Truly sad. May they both be remembered by friends forever.

I know that it’s not the same flight 447 as this one that went down off the coast of Brazil, but freaky just the same. When we heard the next day after arriving that flight 447 disappeared, we thought we had just been on that plane. But, alas, we flew on Delta with an MD-88 and AirFrance 447 was an Airbus A330 or A340.

All right, so we booked with FareDeals a.k.a. Vacation Express. The experience was good, we got a great price. However, Jodi and my name was misspelled on the plane reservation. That meant it took an extra 30 minutes at the airport both times because the booking didn’t match our passports. Oh well, at least we made it to Cancun!

Once we land on 5/31/2009, we head out to the pick up area and find Best Day travel, who had been pre-arranged to pick us up and take us to Riu Caribe. However, Riu Caribe is closed due to occupancy. Turns out a lot of would be Cancun vacationers are staying away due to swine flu (I mean H1N1…), drug wars, global economic conditions, etc… So at this point, we’re thinking “great, what lousy hole are they dropping us in?” But they put us up in Riu Cancun, which I feel is a far better property (and their typical price per night would agree). The location was fantastic, a 2 minute walk from Senior Frogs and Coco Bongo. The beach was rocky, so that was a minus, but once I figured that out, I was on the lookout and quit stubbing my toes and cutting my legs. The swim up bar was awesome, that is in the morning, before anyone had time to puke in it… gross… OK, so this is starting to sound like a bad review, but it was actually a great resort. The staff was nice, the food was fantastic, and the night life was a blast! For the full gallery, click the picture below:

At the airport now. Eating at the Buba Gump shrimp co. Cancun was fantastic. Ready to come home. Hailey, mommy and daddy miss you!
